Did you know that you don’t have to use grapes to make wine? Most of us only ask one question when it comes to wine—red or white?—but it turns out that there is a new trend in winemaking and that is making wine using anything but grapes. As well as adding new, fresh flavours into the mix, there are health benefits too as each fruit comes with its own chemicals which are great for battling against disease. Strawberry wine

Strawberry wine doesn’t need to breathe and is best consumed fresh. It’s definitely an easy drink for the summer weather. Anthocyanin-rich strawberry extracts are shown to destroy human colon cancer cells more effectively than cranberries or blueberries.

Blueberry wine

As blueberries are low in sugar and high in acid, they are perfect for dry table wines, which are best served at room temperature. It also tastes an awful lot like wine made from grapes. Nutritionally, blueberries are better than grapes and studies have found that blueberry wine has more free-radical fighting action than 80% of red wines and 100% of whites. Blackberry wines taste quite a lot like merlot and blackberries are one of the few fruit wines that age well. As they are less acidic than other berries, provide a very round, nice, smooth flavour. Cranberry wine

Cranberry wine has a slightly acidic flavour but is balanced out by a delicate sweetness. Cranberry is very well known for its help with urinary tract issues and some people choose to drink the wine instead of the juice to alleviate the symptoms. Cranberries contain A-type proanthocyanidins that wash bacteria out of your urine stream.
