Do You Have a Kidney Infection?

Kidney infections are caused by bacteria. They are usually caused by exposure to the E Coli bacteria, but other types of bacteria can lead to an infection as well. There are a number of ways that you can become exposed to these bacteria. Here are some of the most common causes”

  • Coming into contact with raw or undercooked meat can lead to an infection.
  • Pregnant women are statistically more likely to suffer from kidney infections.
  • Developing a kidney stone can cause an infection as well.

You should always be wary if you think that you may have been exposed to E. Coli or any other type of bacteria, especially if you are experiencing any of these symptoms. You may need to see your doctor and take Levaquin or a similar antibiotic.

Digestive Issues

The kidneys are responsible for processing waste and removing it from the body. They can’t do their job as effectively when infected. As a result, people with kidney infections tend to have a number of digestive problems.

You may experience nausea or diarrhea. You should always speak with your doctor if these symptoms persist for more than a few days.

Sharp Pain

People suffering from any type of infection tend to also experience pain and discomfort near the infected area. Since the kidneys are located near the abdomen, they tend to cause pain near the side of the body, stomach and groin.

The pain is usually persistent and can worsen over time. Patients with kidney infections tend to experience the most pain while urinating.

Fluctuations in Body Temperature

People with kidney infections also tend to have fluctuations in their body temperature. They may exhibit both fears and chills.

You will want to consider seeing a doctor right away if you start to have a high temperature along with the other symptoms listed above. This is a sign that you are likely experiencing a kidney infection.

Get Treatment As Soon As Possible

Kidney infections can be very painful medical conditions. However, the vast majority of people make a full recovery. Your chances of overcoming the problem will increase if you get to the doctor as soon as possible.

Doctors have historically treated patients with intravenous medications. However, they recently discovered that over 90% of patients make a full recovery when taking oral medications. Therefore, your doctor will probably start you on an oral round of antibiotics.

You don’t need to be alarmed if you think that you have a kidney infection. You should be fine if you contact your doctor as early as possible.
